If you would like to be a successful website marketer, do you have to be a successful Internet marketer? If you hang around the Internet marketing crowd long enough you would swear the only people left to market a product to are fellow Internet marketers. When in truth Internet marketing and Internet marketing products that we all seem to gauge success on is actual a very limited and small pond to swim in.
Just because you market and market on the Internet does not and should not make you think you need to be an Internet marketer. After all, the Internet marketing community sells many other wares than just the latest autoresponder software or the next great keyword program to end all programs. Not even the greatest downline builder or ad program that you need to belong to is really necessary to a website promoter or Webmaster.
Although many of these things can be helpful to people trying to promote a website or a product they are not the end all be all to whether one is successful as an Internet businessperson. Do you really need thousands of people in a downline if you are running a website that sells auto parts? Sure, a group of dedicated affiliates would help and would most definitely lead to a much faster climb to success.
Like wise if you are running a content information site that derives its revenue from site traffic clicking on ads, and buying affiliate products what good is a downline to you anyway? First off, by ad service terms you cannot ask them to come click your ads. Second, you cannot benefit if they really have no interest in your chosen category of content, i.e. cat owners really have no need for dog biscuits.
Yet it seems every time you turn the corner there is some self proclaimed Internet marketing guru selling another bottle of snake potion. This program will get tons of traffic to your site if you build a downline of thousands of people and they all do so, on and so on down the line. Only problem is that most of these programs violate the terms of your ad service TOS and can get your account closed.
The even more insidious side of this is if you spent the same amount of time through more traditional white hat SEO methods as you do promoting these programs you would find out you were actually more likely be getting more traffic that was more targeted to your content or service in the first place and without violating your ad service?s TOS.
A good example of this is the numerous services out there geared toward building a list for you. After all, every time you turn the corner someone is telling you, you have to build a list aren?t they. No names will be mentioned here but your sure to know of one or two that try to sell you on their service will help you build a list of thousands and all you have to do is promote their program. Hint if any of the words are program, system, method, etc. run, and run fast. You are being hoodwinked into promoting someone else?s program, service, system and not your own product, service or website.
The only ones who get anywhere in this food chain are the few top feeders who either own or JV partner with the program owner that truly do have the thousands of members under them to promote to. This leaves the average person trying to find a place on the Internet to make a little extra income or the person trying to kick the 9 to 5 rat race confused and ultimately discouraged and penniless in months.
Internet marketing has to start with self-promotion first! After all you are person number one in your list of favorite Internet marketers or you should be at least. You have to take care of number one before you can take care of number two, three and so on down the Internet food chain.
Instead, try this, start by finding an area that interests you that you would enjoy working with everyday. Next, do your research, find out as much as possible about that area, and keep notes along the way. If it was hard to find information about it you may very well have a under represented niche, that you could make a nice little place in that niche for yourself.
Next, find out if anyone else is interested in your little niche. If so what is there number one need, want, or problem? Find a solution to that problem, fill that need, take care of what they want and you are on your way to the start of a successful Internet website business and chances are it has nothing to do with downlines, programs, list or any of the typical stuff the Internet marketing gurus are trying to push or sell you.
In conclusion, you need to be promoting you and your product. Do not waste a lot of time getting distracted by all the hype and profit motivated advice that gets tossed at you. The number of must have methods is very limited and very simple. You want to get good search engine placement (tons of free info if you seek it out), build backlinks to your site (link exchanges and directory submission to good PR sites), consider PPC if your business model can handle the cost and show a positive return after.
These are among some of the basics once you are established there is nothing wrong with purchasing an ebook or software that fills or answers a particular need. The thing they fail to tell most Newbies trying to make some extra income is most of the answers are available with a simple Google or Yahoo search. The even better thing is the vast majority of this information is available for free to those willing to do their homework and seek it out. You will also get a better understanding of marketing your business without all the distracting hype that detracts from the building of your business in favor of someone else?s.
